industry for over 50 years. Throughout that time, ARMSTRONG
has kept pace with the ever-changing world of technology.
ARMSTRONG had its beginnings in 1947 in Armstrong County,
Pennsylvania. The company, which was initially known as
Armstrong County Line Construction, Inc., specialized
in telephone and power line construction and acted as
a contractor to local utility companies.
.....From this strong background, ARMSTRONG became
more involved with the day-to-day operations of telephone
systems. In 1957, ARMSTRONG purchased the Ritchie Telephone
Company of Harrisville, West Virginia. Today, ARMSTRONG
owns, operates and maintains independent telephone companies
in Rising Sun, Maryland; Addison, New York; Murdocksville
and Duke Center, Pennsylvania and Hamlin and Harrisville,
West Virginia.
.....Throughout ARMSTRONG's history, the company has
been involved with many industry firsts including:
· First on air with Improved Mobile Telephone
Service (IMTS) - Rising Sun, MD
· First in the state of Maryland to have all
digital switching - Rising Sun, MD
· Led the industry in the use of microwave for
long distance dialing - Addison, NY
· First to connect several main hubs via microwave
link - Addison, NY
